From as far as I can remember, modelling has always been my dream. I recall being taught how to catwalk at 6 years old by a neighbor after watching a beauty pageant on TV. The first time I watched Miss Congeniality I eyes were glued to the screen mentally taking note of the training required to enter into a beauty contest. I vowed to myself then that high heels will become my best friend for life. At this point, I was only a teenager. Oh how I prayed to be taller. When I reached my early twenties, I realized I was a mere 5 ft. 3 Inc. How disappointed I was. There went my beauty pageant dreams. I knew I couldn't meet the required height measurements. My dream was dead....or so I thought.
After my undergrad, I moved to the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree. While browsing the internet, I came across a model recruitment advert by UK models on Facebook. For several months, I ignored it. The ad kept on popping up on my news feed until one day, I gave in and sent in my photo. A few weeks later, I received a phone call from an agent at UK models for a test shoot. I remember skipping a class to get to the studio in London just to make it for my first model photo shoot. 100 or more photos later, I was told that I had what it takes to be a model and hear I am living my childhood dream.
Never give up on your dreams, the odds may seem to be stacked against you however where there is a will, there is a way. You can become anything you want to be if you only believe in yourself.
